The Dundee Central Mosque roof has been in need of maintenance for almost 15 years.

The building is over 20 years old now, and whilst some maintenance for wear and tear has been required over the years, we are now at a stage where holding back from repairs will cost more than getting them all done. Since acquisition, the other buildings that are part of the assets of the DIS have also deteriorated somewhat. From amongst those, the Madrasah roof and heating are also in need of attention.

Included in the list of repairs and maintenance are

• Lead replacement weather proofing for domes and gutters required. A major part of the full job.
  The five domes are at risk of future leaks and degradation, and would be very costly to repair.
• Treat main joists  - visible sections require treatment. Again, very costly if not treated
• Remove Roof Garden. Remove grass, remove soil and repair at least 3 leaks. It is not our intention to restore the roof garden after repairs, as it remains unused.
  Will require cherry picker or crane, and a large amount  of manual labour due to access restrictions
• Repair & restore plywood. Water enters between windows in heavy rain due to degraded plywood, and will cause further water damage if untreated
• Downpipes require attention to prevent flooding on roof. Of the 25 downpipes, 19 are compromised and require maintenance and trap replacement (and check wood underside for rot)
• Main dome (Pulpit Dome) has 2 cracks in it. Cracks are in brickwork, not plaster and require examination.
• Madrasah roof requires attention, repairs and removal of some dangerous loose construction materials  - and then to be refurbished
• Painting of louvres between windows x 24
• 13 small and 24 large radiators require protective repainting
• Varnish for some doors required  x 47 doors
• Deep internal cleaning and windows cleaning

This work cannot be done in the winter, and is required to commence at the end of April / start of May 2021.
The whole community will have to pull together for this large project.
